Is there a limit to message length?

A single SMS message is limited to 160 characters total. The Educate Communications tool can support up to 4000 characters at a time.  Once over the 160 characters, an SMS will be ‘split’ into as many messages as needed to accommodate. A letter, number, space, basically everything you enter is a character. Note: be mindful of the character length of your messages, as longer ones may end up at double the cost!

Most cell phone providers will automatically combine long SMS messages into a single text block for readability on the recipient’s device.

Can I send a link?

Yes. SMS messaging does support links, but not hyperlinks.

A link is the URL text that is copied directly out of the browser’s search bar. This may include a website address and additional characters to designate a particular web page. For example: https://cbk12sis.groovehq.com/help

A hyperlink describes when the display text has a URL link embedded within it with the website address. Instead of seeing the URL, the recipient would click highlighted text and be redirected to the URL or embedded picture or video.  For example: Click here for Help

A user did not receive the SMS message even though Educate says sent.

There might be an issue where despite the Educate system confirming the SMS as sent, certain users may not receive them. This could be due to our sending number occasionally being flagged and placed on spam lists by some carriers or messaging platforms.

Are special characters supported?

Currently special characters are not allowed.  If they are entered the system removes them.
